No Place for Hate

Standing up to bullies and against bigotry is never easy – particularly for young people. This is why ADL’s No Place for Hate® initiative empowers the whole school community – teachers and students, administrators and parents – to tackle prejudice, bullying and intergroup conflict.

The No Place for Hate® initiative provides educators and students with the resources to ensure that anti-bias and diversity education are an integral part of the school curriculum.  No Place for Hate® also helps to create and sustain inclusive school environments where all students feel valued and have the opportunity to succeed by promoting respect for individual difference while challenging bigotry and prejudice.  Launched in Austin schools in the fall of 2004, the popular initiative has been embraced by hundreds of campuses throughout the Central Texas region.

To earn the designation schools commit to creating a student led coalition, signing the Resolution of Respect, and hosting at least three anti-bias and diversity related activities throughout the year.

We at Barton Hills Elementary are proud to say that we are a No Place for Hate campus.  This program, led by the 6th grade No Place for Hate Coalition, promotes diversity, kindness, and fairness to all students.

One step that every school must take in order to become a No Place for Hate campus, is that every student and staff member must sign the Resolution of Respect.  This is a promise that everyone makes to ensure that everyone is treated fairly and with kindness.  In addition to our students and staff, we have parents and community members also make the promise!

                             Resolution of Respect
  1. I promise to do my best to treat everyone fairly.
  2. I promise to do my best to be kind to everyone - even if
    they are not like me.
  3. If I see someone being hurt or bullied I will report it to
  4. an adult.
  5. Everyone should be able to f eel safe and happy at school.
I want our school to be No Place for Hate®.
